Information about Crete
Crete is the largest island in Greece and one of the largest in the Mediterranean. Due to its location south of Greece, it is also home to the southern city of Europe - Ierapetra.
Crete is very popular with tourists, especially the north of the country with the larger cities such as Heraklion the capital, Rethymno and Chania. The south of the island is more wild and untouched.
The Greek island also offers an incredible variety of landscapes from beaches, lakes, gorges and high mountains, some covered with snow, to fertile plains and smaller offshore islets. The Minoan culture, mythology and varied Cretan cuisine round out the Greek experience and make Crete a jewel in the Mediterranean.
